We recently have been learning about the cold war in my humanities class. The cold war was a battle for power. Neither nations made large attacks on each other yet made a lot of threats and bluffs. There were a lot of nukes waved around but luckily none of them were fired and eventually the nations cooled down. One of the projects we did during the cold war was a simulation where I worked with a group as if we were part of ExComm which stands for the executive committee of the national security council. Their job is to make very large war decisions that could start or end a lethal war. My envelope contained top secret documents. The documents stated that a bunch of Russian navy ships were sailing to Cuba to deliver nukes. We had to make a decision on how to respond to this information. We decided the best option was to offer to remove our nukes from Turkey in exchange for Russia removing the nukes from cuba. We had to write a memorandum to the president which let him know our decision. The assignment addresses civic literacy and engagement. This 21st century skill participates in government and in the community in ways that impact our daily lives. For this assignment we had to pretend to be in the government and make life changing decisions. I'm most proud of how well our group worked together to come up with a good decision. We talked about it and analyzed the options together. The most difficult thing to complete on this assignment was choosing the right option. There were 5 different options. We could improve this assignment by putting more time into our letter to the president that we made at the end. We made it pretty short and sweet but we could put a little more effort into it.
